‘Thank God, it’s a woman this time!’

That’s what Ritiesh Deshmukh says when he is linked with women these days. Last he heard, the actor confesses, people were tagging him gay!
‘Thank God, it’s a woman this time!’
It seems comedy is the favourite genre of Marathi mulga Ritiesh Deshmukh. For, after dabbling not-so-successfully in action genre with Cash, he is back to doing what he does best light-hearted movies.
So, the dismal performance of Cash scared him? Not at all, Ritiesh is quick to retort, In fact, I had signed my latest release, which is a comedy, before the release of Cash.
1x1 polls
Not all the films that one does become big hits. Its not about me being good at one genre only; there are many other factors that contribute to the fate of a film. Now, Im experimenting with various genres.
While Im working in comedy flicks with Sajid Khan and David Dhawan, Im also doing another action film that will be directed by Sujoy Ghosh, the director of Aladdin. Also, Im doing Nikhil Advanis romantic film Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai, which is the love story of a man whos unlucky in love and a woman who is from another planet. And then theres Aladdin, which is a fantasy film targeted at children. And hows it working with Big B in Aladdin? Its fantastic!
Every day is a new experience. It feels great to stand in front of him and realise that this is the same Amitabh Bachchan who delivered that unforgettable dialogue, Main phenke hue paise nahin uthata. Its a fantasy ride for me, answers the actor. Ask him if it is difficult to remain in awe of a star you are working with, and pat comes the reply, No, its not difficult, if you want to cherish and relish your childhood memories. For me, Mr Bachchan is a part of those memories. Also, as far as stardom is concerned, no one is bigger than him. But , how does he explain the fact that he is yet to work with big banners like Yash Raj and Mukta Arts? Im already doing big films, and all the filmmakers take actors as per their requirement, maybe I dont fit into their scheme of things at the moment, he answers.
And what about the rumours that refuse to let go of him? After being tagged gay for a long time, he is now being linked with actors like Genelia D Souza and Anusha Dandekar. A very composed Ritiesh takes a dig, Rumours are rumours only, but they do make you uncomfortable. However, linkups with men are more uncomfortable than linkups with women. At times, I heave a sigh of relief and say Thank God, its a woman this time!
